Psilocybin trials that are actually recruiting
Every open study, filterable by condition and location — and by the requirement that disqualifies more people than any other, which no registry puts in front of you.
The short answer
133 psilocybin trials are currently open, 84 of them with sites in the United States, and joining one costs nothing. A trial is the only lawful route to supervised psilocybin in most of the country, and the sponsor covers the drug, the sessions and usually travel. The catch is eligibility: 43 of these studies require you to stop psychiatric medication to qualify, and a history of psychosis or bipolar I disorder excludes you from essentially all of them.

How this list is built, and what it is not
These entries come from ClinicalTrials.gov, filtered to studies where psilocybin is an actual intervention rather than a passing mention, and to studies that are recruiting, about to recruit, or enrolling by invitation. Completed trials are excluded. They are research news — you can read about them on our evidence pages — but you cannot join one, and listing them is how other trial finders end up sending people to studies that closed years ago.
The registry is the authority, not us. Every entry links to its ClinicalTrials.gov record, and where our summary and that record disagree, the record governs. Trials close, pause and change criteria without notice, and this snapshot was taken on 2026-08-31.
We are not a recruiter. We have no relationship with any sponsor, we are not paid per inquiry or per enrollment, and we do not pass your details to anyone. If a site offers to “match” you to a psychedelic trial and asks for your contact details first, that is a lead-generation business, and you are the product being sold.
The eligibility criterion nobody surfaces
Of the 133 open trials here, 43 — a little under a third — have eligibility text mentioning a taper or washout of psychiatric medication. Given that roughly one in eight American adults takes an antidepressant, this quietly disqualifies an enormous share of the people who go looking for a trial in the first place.
We flag it on each card because every registry, and every commercial trial-finder we have looked at, buries it in a wall of inclusion and exclusion criteria that a non-specializt will not read to the end of. Surfacing it is most of the reason this page exists. Our flagging is keyword-based and deliberately errs toward showing the warning, so treat it as a prompt to ask rather than a verdict — the study team will tell you exactly what is required.
What screening actually involves
Contacting a study is not the same as joining one, and most people who inquire are found ineligible. Expect a phone screen, then a structured psychiatric interview, medical history, physical examination and often bloodwork. A personal or family history of psychosis or bipolar I disorder will exclude you from essentially every psilocybin trial, and that exclusion exists for a good reason rather than an administrative one.
If you are found eligible, read the informed consent document properly before signing it. Two questions worth asking that people forget: what happens if the experience goes badly during the session, and what follow-up you get after the study ends.

A psilocybin session room at Johns Hopkins, 2008. Six to eight hours on a couch in eyeshades with two monitors present — this, not a clinic brochure, is the setting almost every result on this site was produced in.

This is not medical advice. We summarize public registry data so it is easier to search. Whether a trial is appropriate for you is a question for a clinician who knows your history and for the study team who will screen you.
